There are many pharmaceutical companies in Croatia, a country in the northwestern part of the Balkan Peninsula, Europe. There is a highly educated labour force, good domestic and foreign market growth, good investment in R&D by the pharmaceutical companies and the government.
A pharmaceutical company in Croatia, Pliva (Teva) discovered azithromycin in 1980, putting the country on the world map. Diazepam is also another successful discovery by Croatian-born Jewish chemist Leo Sternbach.
The largest pharmaceutical companies in Croatia are Pliva, Fidifarm, Belupo, JGL and PharmaS. Other foreign companies, such as Nipro Pharma Packaging, Dechra Group, and ACG Europe, are present in Croatia. Innovative Pharmaceutical Initiative–iF! is an association of about 20 pharmaceutical companies in Croatia. The companies provide 54% of medicines in Croatia.

The pharmaceutical industry generated €842 million, which is 6.4% of all income from exports in Croatia. There are 54 registered pharmaceutical companies in Croatia, employing 5,039 workforce (Croatian Chamber of Economy).
