Germany is one of the top global biotech force. As of 2023, there are 798 biotech companies were operating in Germany. Munich remains the epicenter of biotechnology in Germany, and its firms attracted more than half of all venture capital funding.
The research and development based biotechnology sector in Germany employs 38,120 people, and generated a turnover of 12.57 billion euros. Germany is one of the world’s leading medical biotech region behind the UK and the US. The industry has the largest number of biotech companies in Europe, a good number of renowned scientists, and world-class research infrastructure.
Germany has also developed up to 30 biotechnology clusters called BioRegions. The facilities in the BioRegions include the technology parks, which provide spaces and offices, and also helps the collaboration between the universities, R&D institutes and private sector companies.
