List of Pharmaceutical Companies in Oman

There are few licensed manufacturing pharmaceutical companies in Oman, with the Sultanate relying mostly on imported medicines, laboratory equipments, medical devices. There are five pharmaceutical companies in Oman, with three focusing on finished products, while two are more on raw materials and semi-finished products.

These pharmaceutical companies in Oman only produce 8 percent of drug needs of the country. The imported drugs are branded drugs, OTC drugs, oncology drugs, insulins, vaccines, IV fluids and consumables such as syringes, disposable gloves, tubes. Oman is constructing the first ever IV fluids (both small and large volume parenteral) facility in Salalah.

The General Directorate of Pharmaceutical Affairs and Drug Control (GDPA), acting under the MOH, is responsible for coordinating everything relating to the pharmaceutical sector, such as marketing authorization, import, export, licensing, and inspection of all pharmaceutical products and medical device market.

National Pharmaceutical Industries (NPI) established in 2001 is the first manufacturing pharmaceutical company in Oman. They have EUGMP accreditation and operate in the GCC and MENA region, African Continent, CIS Countries, South East Asia and Europe.

Some of the popular foreign brands in Oman are Baxter, Boehringer Ingelham, Sanofi, GSK, Novartis, Astrazeneca, Pfizer, and Merck & Co.
