Top Pharmacy Schools in Australia for Domestic and International Students

There are 16 pharmacy schools in Australia. Admission into pharmacy school is after the completion of secondary education with specified grades in subjects such as chemistry, mathematics, human biology, biology etc. The Australian Pharmacy Council accredit pharmacy programs in Australia for the Pharmacy Board of Australia (PharmBA).

Pharmacy schools in Australia offer different programs such as Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), Master of Pharmacy. Another course, Diploma of Pharmacy Studies, available for those who did not make the requirement to study Bachelor of Pharmacy. It will prepare you for future study in Pharmacy.

The Graduate entry Master of Pharmacy degree is an accelerated programme, that will enable you to complete pharmacy education in two years. The programme is open to those with Bachelor’s degree in supported courses. Out of the sixteen universities offering pharmacy in Australia, six of them offers the two-year graduate entry MPharm Program. They are:

  • Curtin University
  • University of Canberra
  • University of Technology Sydney
  • Griffith University
  • University of Sydney
  • University of Western Australia

International students pay tuition fees. Domestic students (citizens of Australia, New Zealand or a permanent resident holder) are eligible for Commonwealth Supported places (CSP). In this case, their fees are subsidized by the Government. The remaining part is paid by the students, mostly through HECS-HELP loans.

However, only some postgraduate courses offers Commonwealth Supported places. Most pharmacy schools in Australia have scholarship schemes to help eligible students in funding.

Charles Darwin University

Located in Northern Territory, the school of pharmacy is under the College of Health and Human Sciences. It has the National Board Approval till end of 2022. They also offer BPharm (Honour).

Charles Sturt University

The university is located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The Orange Campus serves the pharmacy school. It has National Board Approval active till October next year (2023).

Curtin University

The university campus is in Bentley, Western Australia. The current accreditation runs till end of 2024. They run B. Pharm, B. Pharm honour, and Master of Pharmacy degree program. You must meet the minimum ATAR 80 to study here.

University of Technology Sydney

The University located in Sydney, New South Wales is offering Master of Pharmacy program for both domestic and international students. Applicants must have completed a bachelor degree in the last 10 years in relevant subjects. There is no-part time course.

This university has an additional 5-year pharmacy degree called Bachelor of Pharmacy and Management (Honours). The university offers BPharm, BPharm (Hons), and Master of Pharmacy Programs. From 2023, they plan to change to Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) / Master of Pharmacy Practice, a new vertically integrated combined degree.

To be eligible for the BPharm (Hons), you will need a GPA of at least 5.5, and maintain the GPA of at least 5 across all other units undertaken in the Bachelor of Pharmacy when completing the Honours program.

The pharmacy school is under School of Medical Sciences, in Bundoora, Victoria. They offer BPharm (Hons) degree. The minimum requirement is ATAR of 75.75

The University of Queensland

The University offers BPharm (Hons) degree. It is the highest ranking university for such program. They added a new program called Master of Pharmaceutical Industry Practice, a two-year degree.
