There are many pharmaceutical companies in Greece contributing hugely to the economy of the country. The pharma industry is focused mainly on local consumption. There has been a shift to the production of generics.
The pharmaceutical industry undertakes 8% of total private R&D spending in Greece. They exported €1.4 billion, accounting for 4.3% of all Greek exports in 2018. The industry contributed €6.7 billion (3.6% of GDP) to domestic output totalled in 2019.
In 2020, pharma exports amounted to €2.9 billion and amounted to 9.4% of total Greek exports of goods for 2020.
Lavipharm S.A. is the largest pharmaceutical companies in Greece. They manufacture and sell pharmaceutical, cosmetic, veterinary and consumer health products to Greece and other countries such as Cyprus, France.
The Hellenic Association of Pharmaceutical Companies (SFEE) established in 1982 consists of 59 -17 Greek and 42 multinational pharmaceutical companies in Greece. The organisation is a member of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA).
