There are 23 national manufacturing pharmaceutical companies in Iraq, with two governmental and 21 private companies. They manufacture and produce finished products.
Directorate of Technical Affairs, the State Company for Marketing Drugs and Medical Appliances (KIMADIA), Directorate of Public Health and Directorate of Inspection are the four directorates in the Ministry of Health that handle the registration of new medicines.
Most pharmaceutical products in Iraq are imported from Iran, Jordan and Turkey, and from the US and France, India and Bangladesh.
