There are many pharmaceutical companies in Vietnam, a country in Southeast Asia. Vietnam has one of the fastest growing pharma sector in the region owing to large population, longer life expectancy, economic growth, but an aging population.

The country is one of the emerging pharma market alongside Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, and Singapore.

There are about 250 pharmaceutical companies in Vietnam, with numerous importers, exporters, wholesalers, and distributors. Most of the companies are in the capital Hanoi, Hai Duong province, Ho Chi Minh City, Southwest provinces such as Can Tho City and Dong Thap province.

Some of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in Vietnam are enterprises such as Hau Giang Pharmaceutical, Bidiphar, Imexpharm, and Pymepharco. However, the manufacturing companies can only produce 53% of the needed pharmaceutical products in the country. They import pharma products from India, the US, Germany, Belgium, Italy, South Korea with total imports worth US$4 billion in 2021.

Pharmaceutical raw materials are imported mostly from India, and China. Investment in R&D is lacking in Vietnam.

In 2020, the pharmaceutical market in Vietnam was valued at about US$10 billion, and according to market research firm IBM, it may reach US$16.1 billion in 2026. (Source: VIETNAM BRIEFING)
