The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria has released a new set of guidelines that will guide the pharmacist professional practice this new year 2022.
The main pharmacist regulatory body in Nigeria also made it known that the body has been successfully audited by the NECA for ISO 9001:2015 Certification.

A new rule has been made to guide the operation of pharmacists in pharmaceutical sales and marketing. All pharmacists in the field will now register with their licences. The PCN instructs them to visit the state offices of the body for further information.
The move might be part of the plan to make sure all pharmaceutical sales representatives are fully licensed pharmacists.

A new regulation has been set out for all online pharmacies in Nigeria. The practice, which has not been regulated till now, will now have a policy guiding it. Online pharmacy practice in Nigeria is a fast-growing sector, with so many pharmacy firms, especially in Lagos, Abuja, and Ibadan taking the new trend.
It is a modern and computerized system of pharmacy practice that simplifies the way patients can access drugs. A patient can stay at home and send over a prescription through the website of a licensed pharmacy premise. After reviewing the prescription, the medications will be delivered to the patient at his location.
Though this system has reduced the stress in the way patients can fill their prescriptions, the online pharmacy practice, if not strictly regulated, can prove to be very problematic. Illegal pharmacies can arise, and some unscrupulous elements can use the model to dispense illegal and prohibited drugs.
The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) regulation as regards online pharmacy practice is a necessary step to stem the tide. To register an online pharmacy, the pharmacy premise must be existing already and fully licensed. Then:
- Visit the PCN website
- Click on Online Pharmacy Registration Portal
- Create an account on the portal
- Complete the electronic form by attaching all the required documents
- Click “Submit”
- A temporary licence will be ready for print after approval
