Drugfield Pharmaceuticals Limited was established in 1991 as a multi-dosage pharmaceutical company. After approval by regulatory agencies like the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN), the company started production in 1993.

The company started with the production of dermatological preparation of antibiotic and antifungal agents but has added other dosage forms like tablets, capsules, suspensions, ointment, cream, antibiotic dry syrups, gels, eye/ear/nasal drops, small volume liquid injectable preparations, and large volume parenteral preparations.

In 2012, Drugfield completed its manufacturing facility compliant with the current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). This facility produces intravenous infusion products (large volume parenteral), sterile ophthalmic preparations, creams and gel.

In 2014, Drugfield was the first pharmaceutical company in Africa to manufacture Chlorhexidine digluconate 7.1% cord gel (CHLORAL-G), a dermal preparation used to prevent umbilical cord infections in newborns and reduce infant mortality. This also makes Nigeria, the second country in the world to produce this medicine.

The founder, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Drugfield Pharmaceuticals Limited is Pharmacist Olakunle Ekundayo. The seasoned pharmacist had previous manufacturing experiences in Glaxo Nigeria Limited, and Pfizer Products Limited, where he worked as the Production Manager before establishing his own.
