The UK has an advanced pharma industry with over 700 pharmaceutical companies in the UK providing 70,000 jobs. The industry generated a turnover of £36.7 billion, import of £21.4 billion and export of £23.4 billion (Source: ABPI). London, North West of England and the M4 corridor (London to South Wales) are the location with the highest number of pharmaceutical companies in the UK.

The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry is an organisation with members in England, Wales, Scotland and the Northern Ireland. Their purpose is to make the UK the best environment for the research, innovation and development of medicines and vaccines.
Another organisation, The British Generic Manufacturers Association (BGMA) has members whose products account for the 85% of the total generics market in the United Kingdom. These generic products make up more than billions of prescription yearly saving NHS money from buying original products yearly.
There are huge number of pharmaceutical companies in England, especially in London, North West, East of England, M4 corridor (London to South Wales), Cambridge, Oxford. GSK, GW Pharmaceuticals, Napp, Takeda have sites in Cambridge.
